Sonia's Assignment
For me, this picture represents food culture in Italy. Food and family play a huge role in an  Italian’s day. Italian’s try to create a pleasant atmosphere at the table by dining with their family and friends.with their family and firends.  This creates a an atmosphere that allows them to fully savor and appreciate the food.  In addition to  As a result, I choose this picture that...

Sicily... The Land of my Ancestors!
Since Jess and I didn’t have class on Thursday or Friday we decided to take a little trip to Catania, Sicily.  Our goal was to have an adventurous weekend and so we started it off by taking an overnight train that left Rome on Wednesday night.  The train ride really wasn’t that bad except that the person Jess had to sit next had bad body odor and that while the two of us were reading our cabin...

Cinque Terre
This weekend about 3/4ths of our program went to Cinque Terre but we arrived in two different groups.  The group I went with left at 9 in the morning and arrived at the place we were staying at around 2 in the afternoon.  I went with Jess, Krista, Beth, Katie P., Christine, Claire, Claire, April, Sarah C., Katie Star, and Katie’s boyfriend.  We checked into our hostel and then they went to show us...

Cooking Class!!!
Sadly, our cooking class came to an end this week with a final cooking exam over what we had learned.  From our first day of cooking till now I have learned tons about Italian Cooking and preparing food in general  It all started with our first day of class when we met our instructor Christina Bowerman who is the head chef and owner of Glass Restaurant in Trastevere.  We had four hands-on cooking...

The Land of "Uncle J"...Greece
A group of us, Krista, Leah, Linsay, Bree, and me decided to make a four day weekend for ourselves by skipping class on Thursday.  We left for Greece late Wednesday night and were arriving in San Torini, after a few hour layover in Athens, at 5:30 am just as the sun was rising it looked so beautiful.   Krista and I were staying at a hostel on the other side of the island than Bree, Leah, and...

Cilento
This past weekend was our class trip to Cilento.  Cilento is located in Salerno and is the birthplace of the Mediterranean Diet.  We left from Trastevere Station on Friday morning.  It was a 4 hour bus ride to our first destination.  Luckily for us it was a coach bus and it made it super easy for all of us to go back to sleep since most of us were tired from going out the night before. Our first...

Great Scotts!!!
This weekend Krista, Jess, and I went to Scotland.  We left Rome late on Thursday night to fly into Prestwick.  On the flight, Jess made a hysterical comment that the flight attendant happen to overhear while giving the safety presentation and you could tell for the rest of the presentation he was trying unsuccessfully to refrain from laughing.  Needless to say we were probably his favorite...

Spring Break!!!!
Spring Break finally arrived and not a moment too soon!  I left on Thursday night for London to meet up with my boyfriend.  I flew into Heathrow airport and due to my stupidity in not repacking my bag when I decided to check it ended up losing a flip flop and a boot.  As a result I lost two pairs of shoes instead of just one or none. After I gave up on trying to find them I went through customs...

Week 9 and Rome
There were two pretty cool things this week involving school but other than that it was a pretty normal week of school.  Both things happened on Tuesday.  First on Tuesday morning we went on a tour to the Vatican Museum and we went into the Sistine Chapel.  There are so many paintings to look at in there!  I think my appreciation for art has definitely increased since I started study abroad but...

Week 4 and Venice: February 7-13
On Sunday, since I came back from Prague early I had all day on Sunday free.  Jess, Krista, and I cleaned the apartment.  Then Jess and I went running in the park in Monte Verde.  We ended up getting lost in the park because we thought it curved around but it didnt.  We eventually found an exit, not the same one we came in, and decided to leave the park.  We ended up wondering around Monte Verde...

Week 8 and Rome
School this week was pretty cool.  On Monday we had a food and culture class on eating out and traditions.  We visited three different places all of which I want to go back to and sample sometime.  We did not have class on Tuesday because we all had to go to the police station about our visas.  I was dreading going soooo bad because I thought it was going to take all day but we were there for less...

Week 7 and Berlin
School was school this week nothing to extraordinary happened.  We did have Stefania Barzini as a guest speaker again but this week she gave a lecture on all the food of the different regions.  Tons of info there but she is making us a note sheet which should be helpful.  She talked to us about restaurants in Rome again at the end of class.  I have been dying for some Thai food so I asked her if...

Week 6 and Florence
School this week was pretty fun.  Layers this week was super sweet, as always, but I really liked walking around in and hearing about San Clemente.  Definitely a place I am considering writing one of my extended journal entries about.  Food and Culture this week was really cool.  We had a guest speaker, Stefania Barzini, on Family Dynamics and Gender.  Stefania had lived in America for awhile...

Vineyard Visit: Castello delle Regine
When you think of Italy one of the first things that comes to mind is wine.  On February 12 our class took a trip to Castello delle Regine vineyard near the small town of Amelia in the beautiful countryside of Italy.  The brand name, Castello delle Regine, comes from a small castle that is located on the property of the 300 acre vineyard.  Upon arriving, our group was met by our wine professor,...

Week 3 and Prague: January 31- February 6
School for this week was pretty cool because we had our classes on wine and we had a guided tour of the Vatican Museum.  We had the wine class on Tuesday and we learned a lot about the basics of wine like how it is made and the differences in production of different types of wine.  On Thursday, we had a wine tasting at GLUB.  We learned a lot about the proper way to evaluate wine and attempted to...

Week 2: January 24-30
The school week was fairly uneventful just a lot of trying to get aclimated still. I went running before class one morning and I decided to take off in a different direction than we normally travel to school and ended up lost for a little while. Eventually, I found my way back after getting the chance to practice Italian when trying to communicate with people to find out where to go. Grocercy...

Now that I finally have Internet....
here is what has happened so far.  The flight here as all flights seem to be international or not was long but time since has been flying by.  Each day passes and most days I still have a hard time believing that I am not just here for a short vacation and will actually be living here until May.  How AWESOME!!!  First day was kind of rough.  We got here and it was a Sunday so of course everything...
