School this week was pretty fun. Layers this week was super sweet, as always, but I really liked walking around in and hearing about San Clemente. Definitely a place I am considering writing one of my extended journal entries about. Food and Culture this week was really cool. We had a guest speaker, Stefania Barzini, on Family Dynamics and Gender. Stefania had lived in America for awhile because so she was able to teach us about Italian culture while drawing parallels and comparing it to American culture. At the end of class she also gave us a few suggestions on good, inexpensive places for us to eat in Rome so I will have to go try them sometime. On Wednesday we had our wine exam. How cool is school when it requires you to drink wine at 10 am lol.
On Friday our trip to the TV studio got cancelled because there was a strike. Friday afternoon I left with Jess, Krista, and Christine for Florence. We stayed at PLUS Florence hostel and it was super nice. It even had a pool (not that we used it but still)!
Shopping, David is AMAZING, and “Dear John/Oh Jess…” sum up the weekend pretty well. We spent a LOT of time shopping to the point that we probably brought a new meaning to the phrase shop till you drop. We were all on a mission to find our ideal leather purse amongst other things (jacket, boots, and clothes). I never found my purse or boots or a jacket but I did buy some sweet tops and a cute scarf so the excessive number of hours spent shopping was not in vain. David was definitely the coolest thing I saw this weekend. I am not that into art nor do I ever really stare at a piece of art for longer than a minute; but even I was in awww at the sight of David. I could not believe how detailed and perfect the sculpture was and what baffles me even more was that it was made by HAND from a huge chunk of marble. For the first time probably ever I looked at a piece of art for more than 10 minutes without being forced and was not completely tired of looking at it. Kudos David. As for the “Dear John/Oh Jess…” part of the weekend that is not my story to tell but I will have this as a reminder of that hilarious part of the weekend.
I really liked Florence a lot. It is less crowded and busy then Rome which gave us a nice change of pace. I am a little disappointed I didn’t get to climb the Duomo and see a bit more but it’s ok because I am going back when my parents come to visit so hopefully I will get to do it then. It’s probably a good thing I am going back too because Florence is just such a picturesque place. I feel like almost every street you look down could have a picture taken of it worthy of a postcard.
